Animal Control
The Johnstown Police Department Code Enforcement Division enforces animal control. If you have a question pertaining to animal control please call the Johnstown Police Department at 970-587-5555
Dog Laws and Licenses
Animal control primarily pertains to dogs. We do not have an ordinance for cats and we do not pick them up, unless a person has been injured by a cat or if the cat is sick. All police officers and the code enforcement officer will pick up any dogs that are running at large, which is prohibited within the city limits of Johnstown. It is required that all dogs that are 6 months or older have their rabies vaccination and have a current license. All dog tags can be obtained by going into the Town Hall.
License Fees
License fees are $4.00 for dogs that are spayed or neutered and $10.00 for all other dogs (see fines below for dogs without a dog tag).
Ordinance Violation
If your dog has been picked up and you have not been contacted, the dog has been taken to the Larimer Humane Society located at 6317 Kyle Ave in Fort Collins, phone number 970-226-3647. A list of dogs taken to the Larimer Humane Society is posted inside the double doors at the police department and will soon be available via this web page.
